Going for B Corp Status?

Going for B Corp status?

And what has that got to do with supplier diversity?

B Lab is the non-profit organisation behind the B Corp certification.

They overhauled its B Corp standards on April 8, 2025, replacing the 80‑point system with mandatory minimum requirements across seven key impact areas (e.g., JEDI, climate, governance). Changes apply to new certifications from 2026 onward.

Here are some things you need to know about achieving, and maintaining your B Corp certification.

🔍 What is B Corp certification?

It’s a globally recognised standard for companies that balance profit with purpose.

To become certified, your business must meet high social, environmental, and governance standards, verified by B Lab.

🏆 3 Main Benefits of B Corp Status:

🥇Trust & Credibility

Stand out to customers, investors, and talent as a values-led, impact-driven business.

🥇Commercial Opportunities.

Gain access to like-minded partners and procurement teams that prioritise ethical suppliers.

🥇Stronger Governance.

B Corp forces structure into purpose, making ESG measurable, not just aspirational.

📌 3 Things You Must Do (and Why):

✅ Commit to Supplier Diversity

You must demonstrate that your supply chain includes diverse, underrepresented, or mission-aligned businesses. Why? Because equity is everyone’s responsibility including in procurement.

✅ Measure Your Impact

You need transparent data on environmental impact, employee wellbeing, and community contribution.

✅ Update Your Legal Structure

Companies must legally embed purpose into their governing documents to protect their mission long-term even after leadership changes or acquisition.

3 Outcomes of Failing to Comply:

⛔️Certification Revoked

B Lab can remove your B Corp status if you don’t maintain standards.

⛔️Reputation Damage

Purpose-washing doesn’t last long. Customers and employees will hold you to account.

⛔️Lost Opportunities

Many buyers and partners now expect B Corp-like rigour. Falling short could cost you growth.

B Corp isn’t just a badge, it’s a blueprint for how business can and should be done.
B Corp isn’t just a badge, it’s a blueprint for how business can and should be done.

And yes, supplier diversity is part of that blueprint.

If you’re going for B Corp, start with your supply chain. That’s where equity becomes action.
